After spending some time away from music after the Happy Hate Me Nots called it a day in 2012, Paul is back writing songs, with melody on the brain, stories to tell and acoustic guitar in hand. With Matt Galvin on electric guitar, they rekindle the intertwining guitar magic from when they both played in the reformed Happy Hate Me Nots from 2007 to 2012. Jim Dickson on bass and Nick Kennedy on drums make those songs move and swing… big time.

On the heels of a tumbling drum intro, the first track 'Step Into The Light' launches out of the speakers and straight into the chorus of the song. It's an exhilarating power pop sound built on skyward melodies and bold music gestures courtesy of Matt's ringing, exultant guitar. You can hear the sound of The Rolling Stones, Primal Scream and Big Star in the riffs and rhythms of the song as Paul sings optimistically about pulling someone up and giving them space to breathe and thrive.

It has a psychedelic bit in the middle, where the floor falls away and you go somewhere else for a while, til you snap out of it and realise you are the light! Elsewhere on the EP, 'Our Time Is Short' is a euphoric rush of crashing drums and cascading guitars with elements of funk, while 'You Can Rely On Me' harkens back to a classic Australian jangly guitar pop sound – all wistful, melancholic and richly melodic. Rounding out the EP is the epic and energetic sprawl of 'Don't Stop', a song that dials in the distortion and creates a swirling psychedelia of spiralling/choppy guitars and rapid-fire drums (think Died Pretty, Hoodoo Gurus) around Paul's voice - the centre of an emotional and inspiring call to personal action.
